The stepping stones

It is said that failures are the stepping stones to success. How true it is. Many famous people have proved that with will power and determination, we can achieve even the almost impossible. Let me give some real life examples. There was a girl called Wilma Rudolph. When she was a small child, she was struck by a viral fever and she lost the use of her legs. She was paralysed. The doctors said that she could never walk. But the girl didn't give up. With her mother's encouragement and her belief in God, she took her first step when she was nine. Then she took part in her school running race. What do you expect?! Yes, she came last, way behind the others. But she kept going. Finally one day she won the race. Then she graduated and went to the university. She told her coach that she want to take part in Olympics. The coach didn't shoo her away. Instead he said that with God's help and her will power she could succeed. She trained with patience and dedication. The rest is history. She won not just one, but many gold medals in the 1960 Montreal Olympics. For Wilma her physical handicap was not a stumbling block; it was a stepping stone to success. Our own Sudha Chandran, the great classical dancer was injured in an accident. Her leg was amputated. She got an artificial leg(Jaipur leg) and she practiced dancing with perseverance. Now she entralls millions of people around the world with her dance. All of us have to learn to cope with handicap and succeed inspite of them.
